Think You're Safe On The University Of Tennessee Campus? Think Again!

Over the past few years, the University of Tennessee or UTK has been pushed into the spotlight, due to a seedy sexual assault scandal. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the school administration protected their football stars from rape charges. The sexual assault lawsuit was just recently settled and one would think UTK administration would learn a thing or two from their past. All Universities and higher educational institutes will experience some level of crime. It is the responsibility of the University and their staff to alert students to serious campus crimes. FunnyDawg has already proven that the three big local media outlets, WBIR, WATE, and KnoxNews, refuse to cover local crime. This is truly a disservice to the locals, who may wander the streets alone at night and put themselves in harm's way.

So, let us take a look at the crime in and around UT Campus. Above, you will find a snapshot of the RaidsOnline crime log for the University of Tennessee and the nearby vicinity. As you can see, there is a great deal of crime outside of the campus, but the campus itself is all, but clear. What a coincidence huh? UTPD or the University of Tennessee Police provides everyone with access to a 60-day crime log. The log contains basic crimes, such as vandalism, assault, and simple theft. Is this a comprehensive record or are details being left out to create the narrative that UT is safer than it really is?

UTK Complaints

One only needs to check out UTK reviews from current and former students to find a glimmer of the truth. Who would understand the safeness of UT better than those that have walked the school's halls? On UTK campus, students need to remain vigilant. The surrounding areas are undeniably dangerous, especially at night. And, the campus itself is no sanctuary.

By taking the time to scour through UTPD's log book and the RaidsOnline website, the mass majority of these crimes go unreported, so the public will remain oblivious. Also, Funny Dawg was contacted by a concerned parent, who felt betrayed by the school. After learning about the incident involving Fraternity Dad "Al", she attempting to get in touch with those in charge. She sent three emails to the address provided on the UT website. The email went unanswered, so she sent it again. This time, she got a response from UT's media relationships representative. The woman's email has been provided below.

University of Tennessee media relations

Our concerned mother did the right thing and contacted the school for answers. What she got was a run around. We were also notified that the concerned mother contacted WBIR, KnoxNews, DailyMail, and several other local media outlets with the information. Unfortunately, these groups failed to respond or acknowledge the story. They have failed you and the school likely has as well. This could very well be a violation of the Clery Act. Yet, nobody cares about you or your UT child.

Making money and maintaining the unblemished reputation of the school comes first. Taking your 20k per year for poor education comes second. Your child's safety ranks near the bottom of the list. Football and other sports need to be stripped out of universities and colleges. Most student athletes are not equipped to excel at academics and have no intention to do so anyway. Make universities great again by focusing them on education and less about sports. Allow athletes to bypass college and enter directly into minor leagues for several years, while being paid.

Parents need to demand better. Don't wait 3 weeks to become worried about your child's safety. Stand up to the bullies at UT and force the school to strive for betterment. Contact your senators and representatives as well as the local media outlets! Force them to acknowledge the failings of the University of Tennessee. Don't let it get swept under the rug, because your child could be the next victim.
